On a low carb or ketogenic diet my fasting blood sugar is 90-120. I think it may get higher the lower carb I go. Most internet sources say don’t worry about it, worry about your Ha1c. Is this insulin resistance? Anyone have better information? If I do a water fast my morning blood sugar will go down and down each day, til it reaches about 50 in 4 days. But as soon as I start eating it pops right back up.

Sometimes it does get hard, sometimes you may want to cheat, and sometimes you do. I've done it. But remember your end goal - for me that is around 30 pounds to go, for you it may be to get stronger, or lose X amount of weight, etc., and get back on the horse if you fall down! I think there is a lot more to the story than ketosis or very low carb for everyone. In my own experience, high carb works much better. I tried very low carb for a long without really feeling amazing, I then switched back to high carb and quickly lost weight and leaned out. I still eat high carb and my strength is better and I'm even leaner now. I find it very difficult to overeat (I obviously eat very 'clean diet').

My story seems to fit all the cliches on here. I have tried so many different things. I've juiced, I've counted calories, I over paid a website to try and coach me to health ($1200 O_O ) . I could not get the ball rolling and it felt like I was just spinning my wheels, not moving. I work with a naturopath to help heal my issues. She uses a ZYTO Elite to figure out the bodies frequences, food issues, and viruses. I was then told I had Candida in my tissue, leaky gut, liver congestions, etc. I was fairly sick. Been walking this road since October. She read me my food sensitivities and what my gut couldn’t tolerate. I was on a candida diet for 4 months, which is zero carb. Yet, she told me NEVER to be in ketosis. Impossible task. So, I lost 30lbs effortlessly on that. I’ve been noticing I went from muscle tone to NONE. Like, even if I flex my arm, you see no muscle. I was also very week and not able to exercise on keto. This is normal, I read. In March, I abruptly stopped losing weight, gained inches galore, and nothing had really changed, diet wise. I put on 10lbs. I re-scanned a few weeks ago and she was concerned that being in keto affected me. I came across your article and what HIT ME was that just 3 weeks ago she put me on potassium, magnesium, celtic sea salt, and some other herbs. But, all the ones you mentioned here. She stressed, again, please never go into ketosis. I can only tolerate sweet potatoes and yams now that i’m healing my gut, but so far i’m still not losing. I’m maintaining. BUT, i’m able to exercise now, so that is good. I think you are SPOT ON, from my own life experience with it, and thank you for sharing even though you’ll likely be torn to pieces.
Consume more beef and high-fat dairy. These keto foods contain high amounts of a fatty acid called Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA). Now I though about taking keto supplement to boost my ketosis (I’m also looking to boost my overall electrolyte and vitamin/mineral). I’m unsure what product to take. Should I take keto os or ketocana (or else)? Should I take it in the morning while I’m empty stomack for the next 6 hours (wake up at 5) with my mg cap so I get a boost in electrolyte and keto in the morning? Should I take more? Depending on the set, I might not have to take mg cap anymore since they all include some in it.

actually sugar is bad for you and does cause diseases. yes the keto is dangerous and not meant to be a long term way of eating. If you read more about it , it’s for people that are really overweight that need to lose a lot of weight quickly. Humans are not meant to eat that much meat. If you go back to the biblical days, which is the way we should still be eating, they ate more vegetables and fruits than meat. Fish was the only meat Jesus ate. More people need to base their diets off alkaline foods because our bodies are acidic and we need to eat more alkaline foods to balance the acid in our bodies. Acidic bodies are more likely to get diseases. Meats, starches, sugars, sodas, etc are considered highly acidic so we should only be eating those foods on occasion not on a daily basis. Vegetables and fruits are what should be the majority of our diets. I have been eating more alkaline foods for the past 2 weeks or less and have already noticed a difference in my weight and energy . No one wants to talk about alkaline foods because the doctors wouldn’t make any money if people were well all the time because they took care of their bodies. They are not taught about nutrition nearly as much as they are medicines in school. It’s sad, but true. They only know how to medicate a problem which usually doesn’t help and can even make things worse. They should be learning about nutrition and teaching people what to eat and what not to eat to prevent diseases.

The retention and need for a diuretic in the past may have been from excessive carb/wheat/dairy intake… Something you may find resolves with a ketogenic diet. Decreasing iodized salt and increasing sea salt, especially himilayian pink salt might help you to maintain sodium levels without the fluid retention effects also. For example I always buy unsalted butter and add pink salt for the flavour/sodium component. It’s made a big difference for me (a fellow massive found retainer haha)


IBS and even though I go for periods of time feeling well, it does flare up and drives me crazy. My husband, 66 years old has been doing the Keto diet for 5 months and have lost 25 lbs. (he has12 more to go to be on a healthier weight). I am his main support with Keto as I cook in a very creative and I vary his weekly menu a lot to make it Keto friendly and healthy. He is doing about 35-38 grams of carbs per day that allows more vegetables and berries. He has become extremely sensitive to sodium and gets bloated, therefore now also doing low sodium diet.
I never respond to anyone online, but I felt compelled to respond to this. First off, rice and corn are grains. I’ve found since doing the ketogenic diet, was that my g.i. issues disappeared. Something is happening with breads, certain fibers, and grains. Within 6 weeks, my severe abdominal pain and cramping and “D” went away. My heartburn and indigestion disappeared, and I no longer experience “slow digestion” (I have no other way to explain what I was feeling”. My IBS symptoms are gone. I was able to get off the antispasmodic drugs my doctor had me try. I feel this way of eating is going to have to be a permanent lifestyle change. I was able to lose 45 lbs in the first 8-10 months, bring my a1c down from 5.8 to 5.0. I’m absolutely a firm advocate for the keto way of eating. I’m not dissing on anyone who is against this way of eating, I’m just saying that my symptoms from the past 25 years, I believe were totally due to the poor diet I used to have. Pizza, cake, ice cream, cookies, chips, poptarts, crackers, tv dinners, corn, potatoes, rice, beans, pasta and breads….when I find myself wishing for those things, I think of how I used to feel. Also….I got severe “hemmies” when I had my children, and they stayed with me. Since I’ve been eating the “keto way”, I’ve not had any hemmorhoidal (sp) flare ups. I spoke with my doctor, he’s on board with this diet if it means no more pain, or “D” or “H”. Everyone is different. I just happened to stumble upon this way of eating purely for my a1c. I was pleasantly surprised when my health issues went away too. If anyone else reading this has G.I. troubles, speak with your doctor about this way of eating. Ketone salts did not improve performance 35 ,36. There are two recent published studies of ketone salts on athletes.. Performance was compared between ketone salts vs. carbohydrate in a 4 minute cycling time trial and a 150 kJ ( ~10 mins) cycling time trial. In the 4 minute trial there was no change in performance, and in the 150 kJ test, performance was decreased by 7%. Reasons for the difference in findings could be: Lower levels of blood BHB levels (which peaked at 0.6 mM and 0.8 mM in these studies) meaning far less BHB was present than in the ketone ester study. The ketone salt was given without carbohydrate and so there was no additive effect of ketones + carbohydrate as seen in the ketone ester study. The tests used were short and highly reliant on anaerobic (glycolytic) metabolism, therefore ketones did not offer an advantage. 
Anecdotally speaking, people do lose weight on the keto diet. Heather Wharton, a 35-year-old business relationship manager from Tampa, Florida, lost 140 pounds since starting the keto diet in January 2016: “I plan on being on the keto diet for the rest of my life,” says Wharton. “My husband and I consider ourselves to be food addicts, and the keto diet is what we use as a form of abstinence from trigger foods that have sugar and other carbohydrates." A typical day of eating for Wharton includes coffee with a protein supplement, a cup of unsweetened cashew milk, cauliflower rice with ground turkey and liquid aminos (a carb-free substitute for soy sauce), spinach, six slices of turkey bacon, six eggs, and a little salsa.

Perhaps you fall into the category of Olympic athletes who would dope with damaging drugs, even if they knew it would kill them. However, if you desire a long, high-quality life, you don’t want to be a washed up ex-exerciser with diabetes, or you don’t want to experience joint, nerve and brain inflammation, damage and degradation, you may need to adjust your lens.
Day 1: It's 8:15 a.m. and my stomach is growling. It knows it's time for its breakfast, and I'm depriving it. I blended my protein coffee and ran out the door. My first thought is that the vanilla flavor is a nice complement to black coffee. But toward the end of the thermos, I realize that no matter how you dice it, vanilla bone broth protein coffee is not the same as a vanilla blonde roast with skim milk.
